The mission

A park retells its history

There are many beautiful sides to the Polish capital of Warsaw – and one of the reasons for this is that around a quarter of the total area is made up of green spaces and parks. One such park is Plac l Dywizji Pancernej, which has a rich history. Despite being located in the old town and directly on the Vistula river, it has been neglected for a long time. To mark the 125th anniversary of the Warsaw water and sewage management company, the park and its 2200-m2 pond and two linear water basins will be brought to life.

A partnership with a future

Due to the time frame and complexity of the task, the OASE project managers decided to collaborate with local partners from the very beginning. Together with Watersystem, who oversaw the water installations, and Mostostal Warszawa SA, who were responsible for the concrete structures, the project was launched as a consortium. The overall design came from the Artur Bronisz Project Design Studio, with support from OASE during the design phase. After intensive planning, the joint presentation impressed with its well-rounded concept and dazzled the decision-makers with spectacular fountain animations. It was a great success for all involved, and this first collaboration was followed up with four more projects to date. But first, it was time to start working on Plac I Dywizji Pancernej park.

A tender with aspiration

Renata Kaznowska, then Director of the Parks Department and later Deputy Mayor of Warsaw, and her team had come up with a concrete idea for the new Plac l Dywizji Pancernej. The space in the heart of the city was to become a true city attraction, which would attract tourists and residents with the latest in digital fountain technology – but above all with its constantly changing multimedia projections. The idea: Every year a different Warsaw legend would be re-enacted in the sky. This was the perfect challenge for the OASE team.

A construction phase as smooth as Swiss clockwork

Thanks to the close cooperation from the very beginning, everyone knew exactly what they needed to do. This meant that challenges could be overcome quickly and professionally, and just seven months after the tender was accepted, in October 2010, the contracting authorities carried out an inspection. They gave the team the green light, with only a few changes required. And so OASE began to add all the other colours…

The successes

A show as unique as the city itself

On the evening of 7 May 2011, around 25,000 people gathered at Plac l Dywizji Pancernej to attend the grand opening: "The Dance of the Elements". 100 actors were awaiting their cue. And then it was time for them to take the stage: 385 nozzles, 55 pumps and 216 RGB LED lamps were digitally put into action. On a 20 x 7-m water screen, laser and projector images, accompanied by music and fire effects, told the story of the four elements. It was an evening that inspired the people of Warsaw – and is still inspiring visitors today. Since its opening, the Multimedia Fountain Park has been one of Warsaw's top attractions. Each year, more than 50,000 people come to help launch the new season. Over 1 million visitors are mesmerised by the show each year, which always takes on a new theme.

An attraction for everyone

It is not only on show evenings that the attraction delights its visitors – every day they can enjoy a 3-m-high walk-through water tunnel created by OASE Jumping Jets. Or they can marvel at the brightly coloured illuminated fountain waves of different sizes that move through the flanking linear pools. And even the children are catered to: They will be totally in their element on the 140-m2 splash deck, where they can make the fountains dance on command via foot sensors. Especially on hot summer days, this provides some welcome refreshment, with plenty of space for up to 1000 children to run around and have fun. So today every visitor, big or small, can write their own history in Plac l Dywizji Pancernej.
