Balanced nutrients in freshwaters are crucial for the health of freshwater aquatic ecosystems such as lakes, ponds, reservoirs, wetlands and rivers. The interaction of nutrients, in particular phosphorus (P), nitrogen (N) and carbon (C), directly influence water quality, biodiversity and the structure and function of an entire aquatic ecosystem. The Redfield ratio serves to illustrate the baseline for this balance. A balanced C: N: P ratio supports healthy aquatic life and prevents the mass development of individual organisms, e.g. phytoplankton. Shifts in this ratio, particularly due to an excess of P, can disrupt the delicate balance and trigger negative and detrimental ecological consequences.
In freshwater systems, P is often the limiting nutrient. Even small increases in P and N concentrations can lead to an excess of nutrients which can lead to excessive plant and/or algal growth, a process termed, eutrophication. Algal blooms and/or extensive biomass of aquatic plants can reduce oxygen concentrations through different processes which can ultimately lead to fish kills. Therefore, it is important to consider not only P, but also the balance of N and C to ensure the health and stability of the water body.
With its innovative combined mode of action, SeDox Max ensures a sustainable improvement in the water quality of eutrophic and hypereutrophic waters and binds the dissolved P in the water column and P released from sediments with its patent-pending formulation. In addition, it balances the nutrient equilibrium for productive, medium to hard water systems, with high orthophosphate concentrations. It stabilizes the water nutrient concentrations and improves the potential for increased biodiversity.
