Stable, biodiverse bodies of water usually have an even nutrient balance (C: N: P) but lakes, in particular, are usually P limited. However, if the nutrient concentrations of a water body become unbalanced (e.g. through an increase of P permanently entering a lake from surface run-off from the catchment), this usually results in strong formation and rapid growth of specific and specially adapted algal species. Particularly in productive waters with medium and high hardness, P is usually bound in biomass and sediment, but P is also found dissolved in the water column as orthophosphate. The innovative product formulation of SeDox Max offers several mechanisms to counteract eutrophication. It can effectively bind orthophosphate and at the same time promote nutrient balance in the water column. The patented mode of action of SeDox Max combines orthophosphate binding, oxygen enhancement and the addition of inorganic carbon.1. SeDox Max effectively binds orthophosphate, which is dissolved in the water column and released from sediments under natural water body conditions. It binds the orthophosphate into insoluble minerals and significantly reduces the orthophosphate content to below 0.035 mg/l. It is characterised by its high binding capacity (30g P/kg) even at low orthophosphate concentrations. Thanks to the innovative binding mechanism using several components, orthophosphate binding takes place both in the short term, within a few hours and in the long term, over several months.2. SeDox Max also adds biologically available carbon species to the water, thereby optimising the nutrient ratio (C: N: P) in the water. This creates improved water quality for higher heterotrophic biodiversity. It also significantly reduces the potential for strong, undesirable biomass development.3. By adding electron acceptor species (CaO2; O2) and buffering the pH of the sediment, SeDox Max also promotes better conditions for microbial activity which can facilitate higher nitrogen and carbon degradation rates. This enables the microbiological degradation of organic sludge components which can reduce organic sediment depth and increase water volume. The high binding capacity and the different modes of action of SeDox Max, allows a reduced dosage and by association, reduced application effort compared to our predecessor product and that of various competitor products. SeDox Max is suitable for standing waters, closed water circuits and for internal lake restoration.
